Below, we’ve translated a summary of our most important info. <3
… Derby – What?
Roller Derby is a fast contact sport that is played on roller skates. There are two teams that play against each other on an oval track. Every team has skaters who play different roles:
- Jammis* gain points by passing Blockis* of the opposite team,
- Blockis block opposite Jammis and help their own
In each round, a “Jam” (max. 2 minutes), small groups of four Blockis and one Jammi per team play against each other.
*We use the terms Jammis and Blockis (without pronouns), for all people who are jamming and blocking.
Derby Dino-Mite’s Political Manifesto
We strive to create a space for FLINTAs (women (German: “Frauen”), lesbians, inter, non-binary, trans, and agender people) to play Roller Derby. We create this space by prioritizing FLINTA people. We achieve this by making our team for FLINTA people only.
At our games (bouts), we also prioritize the participation of FLINTA people. For bouts and many other public events we welcome everybody. However, we demand respectful treatment at these events that takes into account the priority of FLINTA people within this space.
We want a sport in which we can all grow together, without any competitive thinking or pressure to perform. We want to take care of each other, by communicating each other’s boundaries, to create a space in which everyone can feel comfortable.
We do not idealize one specific body image.
Roller Derby is not just a sport on skates, there are multiple ways to participate. The AG (work group) Roller Derby is formed solely through the active participation of its members. This means that each member needs to contribute according to their own capacities and proactively take on tasks (true to the Do It Yourself-spirit of the sport.) We consider ourselves a queer-feminist sport group: for us, politics and sports cannot be separated. We aim to create a space where there is no room for:
- sexism
- macho-attitude (Mackertum)
- discrimination on grounds of sexual orientation(s)
- discrimination on grounds of gender identity/identities
- racism
- antisemitism
- nationalism
- ableism
- classism
- generally discriminating and excluding behavior (for example because of social status, age, weight, body, etc.)
We are aware of the intersectionality of different forms of discrimination, and our aim is to work towards a better space for all and reflect those hurdles. We reserve the right to exclude people with discriminatory symbols or behavior from our events.
We understand this political manifesto as the foundation of our relationship with each other, as a group, while understanding that it must be open for change and new perspectives. An inclusive discussion culture is important to us, in which hierarchies of knowledge are being broken down to make participation, independent of the level of knowledge, possible. Not always and everywhere will we succeed in implementing these ideas, but we strive to question, reflect and change our own actions.

Wanna play Roller Derby?
We are thrilled to have you (learn how to) skate with us, cheers for us at bouts, and visit our events. At the moment, we do not have open training sessions. However, we regularly organize Newbie Days, where anyone interested can get a taste of being in the team.
